Better Than RoundUp Weed Killer For A Fraction Of The Cost

Hello friends, I hope everyone had a very blessed Easter weekend. We sure did. Our family enjoyed many Easter egg hunts and some really yummy food with family.

Today I am going to be sharing with you one of my new favorite products to make at home! DIY RoundUp weed killer.

Now I don’t know if any of you are like me. But for fun, I like to search through Pinterest and find “knock off” or “DIY” projects to do on my own at home. But the problem is I often don’t follow through. Because see, I’m the type of person who has to see the product working with my own 2 eyes. And even when I watch videos I question if they are 100% true. So I guess you could say, I’m just not easily pursued when it comes to DIY projects. Which is ironic since DIY projects are a big part of this blog! But that’s why I do this. So you can rest assured if I post about it here. It’s legit and works 100% I can promise you that.

Spring has come here in Kentucky. So the weeds have started to pop up. My husband and I were in the backyard a few weeks ago preparing for our twins 2nd birthday party. So I mentioned to him we needed RoundUp. Then he says, hey I think I saw something on Facebook about vinegar killing weeds the other day. Hmm, actually I think I have also. So I quickly searched Pinterest for DIY weed killers. We read about 10 blog post about different ingredients before deciding on our own recipe. Our recipe consisted of these 3  things we already had at home. ; )

So my husband and I mixed up the ingredients and took some before pictures. Sprayed down a few larger weeds and waited. I really thought I would need to apply 2-4 days in a row to really kill the weeds. Then it rained later that afternoon. So I thought man no way this is going to work now.

Look at those roots! I have no clue what type of weed this is. But its roots were so thick and had it has tiny thorns all over.

So you wouldn’t believe my excitement when I checked the weed that next afternoon! All dead friends ALL dead! I mean I’m still so excited about this. I feel like I should be doing a video right now to get my excitement across because I can’t fully describe it here. Kinda sad how excited this made me but saving money is a big deal to me! You can make a whole gallon for under $5.00!

All dead! I sprayed this multiple times with roundup last summer and it kept coming back. So this will be the true test to see ho great this weed killer is. It has been 2 weeks and still no sign of return!

I’m a little disappointed in myself that I waited so many years to figure this out. I just feel so silly that I felt like the $20 just had to be better because it had a fancy label and was more expensive. Silly silly. But you live and you learn friends.  And that’s why I’m sharing this with you. So you have no regrets friends! NO REGRETS!

Below is the SIMPLE recipe we used

I’ve read regular table salt will work just as well if you don’t already have epsom salt, I haven’t personally tried this yet but I’d say try with a small amount first to make sure it works as well before making the whole gallon.

1 gallon of white distilled vinegar

2 cups Epsom salt

1/2 cup blue Great Value (Dawn) dishing liquid

Mix all this together in a sprayer of your choice and spray away! Weeds will be dead within hours.

Keep in mind this will kill anything it comes in contact with. Be careful not to get on flowers or grass you don’t want to die.

We sprayed our weeds 2 weeks ago now and they have yet to come back. Yay!

I hope this DIY weed killer saves your family a little money this summer.

Speaking of summer, head on over here to check out our big plans for this summer. We are so excited for summer break and to go on some new adventures. HERE
